Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, Yash plays Ravana and Sai Pallavi plays Sita. The film was first known as Ramayana: Part 1 before taking its current title (The Hollywood Reporter India).
The pedigree is the pitch: producer Namit Malhotra runs DNEG, the Oscar-winning effects house behind Dune (2021) and Interstellar (2014), and Tiwari directed Dangal (2016), still the highest-grossing Indian film worldwide.
