Lionsgate has released the first official trailer for Above the Below (2026), marking Idris Elba's feature directorial debut. The footage arrives six weeks before the film's theatrical opening and establishes the dual-environment — orbital disaster into deep-sea trap — that drives the story.
Official trailerCo-directed by Elba and Martin Owen, the British survival thriller follows three astronauts whose capsule crashes into the ocean during a catastrophic reentry, cutting them off from mission control as oxygen depletes. Elba plays commander Jackson alongside Caitlin FitzGerald (Brookes) and Hero Fiennes Tiffin (Rhodes). The trailer, published October 20 on the Lionsgate Movies YouTube channel, was shot largely submerged at Pinewood Studios' underwater stage. Screenplay by Elizabeth Morris, Matt Mitchell, and Vicki Sargent; produced by Future Artists Entertainment. FirstShowing confirms the December 4, 2026 wide theatrical release.
